On Monday 27th June, All Saints’ Church is hosting the Watford Deanery Synod Meeting.
The meeting will be open to anyone and will include a talk titled Views on the refugee crisis from an interfaith perspective by the Revd Bonnie Evans-Hills, Diocesan Interfaith Advisor.
Please come along at 7:45 for an 8pm start.
We’re a bit late announcing our Missions for this year, but they have now been agreed and we have already started raising funds at our Table Top Sales and other events. All money raised during 2016 will be split equally between our four nominated Missions: Toilet Twining, Charis Tiwala, Watford and Three Rivers Refugee Partnership and ASCEND.
Here’s the thing… 2.4 billion people don’t have somewhere safe, clean and hygienic to go to the loo. That’s more than a third of the people on the planet. Now, you can get excited about life-changing long-drops!
By twinning your toilet, you help those in desperate poverty to have access to a proper latrine, clean water and the information they need to be healthy.
How does it work? For just £60, you can twin your loo with a latrine halfway around the world, in a country of your choosing. For £240, you can twin with a school block. Your smallest room becomes the proud owner of a personalised certificate, complete with a colour photo of its twin and GPS coordinates so you can look up your twin on Google Maps.

Charis Tiwala is a Christian charity offering support and assistance to anyone in Hertfordshire who is affected by human trafficking or sexual exploitation within the sex industry. They exist to give people in the sex industry a choice again; a choice to exit if they wish, and a choice to rebuild a new life as they would choose to live it.
Their vision is to see a society where everyone is valued, treated with dignity and able to live a fulfilling life, without the danger of being trafficked or sexually exploited.

The Watford and Three Rivers Refugee Partnership (WTRRP) offers practical and emotional support in West Hertfordshire to asylum-seekers refugees and those with no recourse to public funds (NRPF), many of whom are destitute and homeless. Our mission is to help provide access to the advice and services needed, often providing long-term support until statutory services are in place.

ASCEND is our very own Mission working right in the heart of our community. They’re all about moving people forward, challenging their perceived barriers to education and training; providing people with more choice and control over their lives. Thanks to ASCEND, many local people now have the confidence, self-esteem and skills to find a route to employment, some for the first time in their lives. ASCEND also works with young people aged 16 to 25 and has set up the Dig Deep Allotment Project with Farming for All CIC and Step Up with Herts Mind Network.

Sunday 17th April at 2pm
This year Three Rivers District Council civic service is to be held here at All Saints’ Church. This annual service brings together the Councillors, Mayors and Chairs from all over Hertfordshire.
The Chair of Three Rivers District Council, Eric Bishop, has asked that the service this year should be a celebration of the rich diversity in our district and it will include a huge variety of people from many different cultures and faiths. There will be a song of atonement from a Jewish representative, a Sikh will talk to us about his faith, a hymn will be sung by the Romanian choir (the church that uses our building), the South Oxhey Children’s Choir will sing and there may also be contributions from a member of the Krishna Temple and a mosque. It will be a great joy to worship together with people from so many different backgrounds.
You are invited to join us at this service – please come along and share in the rich diversity we have in our local communities.
Sunday 20th March – 10.00am
Our traditional Palm Sunday Service where we celebrate Christ’s entry into Jerusalem before starting his final week of ministry. Service starts with a palm cross parade and includes a dramatic reading of the Passion.
Thursday 24th March – 7.30pm
Maundy Thursday is one of the most holy days of the Christian year. It is when we remember Christ’s promise to us, it is the moment when Jesus gave us the Eucharist as our main act of worship and it is the service when he washed the feet of his disciples and set us the example of how to live as Christians.
Friday 25th March – 11am (United Service in South Oxhey Precinct)
Friday 25th March – 2.30pm (Service at All Saints’ Church)

Please join us as we remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for us as he suffered on the cross to save our sins. Good Friday is also one of the holiest days in our calendar and it is important that as Christians we all observe it seriously.
.
There is no Easter without Maundy Thursday or Good Friday.
Sunday 27th March – 10.00am
Come and join the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection . The service will start outside – beside Oxhey Chapel – with the lighting of the Pascal Candle from a fire. The lit candle will then be carried into the church symbolising the light of Christ coming into the world.
This will be an All Age service.
Our Easter Service will be followed by:
Decorated Egg Competition: Once again we will be holding a decorated egg competition so get those creative juices flowing. Decorate a hard-boiled egg and bring it along on Easter Day and you could win an Easter egg.
Easter Scavanger Hunt: After the service, the children can let off some energy and join the hunt for some sweet treats.
Walk – Depart All Saints’ at 9am
Picnic – Meet in the Abbey Gardens from 1pm
Service – St Albans Abbey at 3pm (parade into Abbey from 2pm)
Each year a group of us have joined in the Easter Monday Pilgrimage to St. Albans →. We have always had a wonderful time! We go into the Abbey and join over a thousand other people for a tremendous service. Come along and share in the joy of the risen Lord!
Some of us will walk to the Abbey (an 11 mile walk). We are planning to leave All Saints’ at 9am, getting to St Albans for around 1pm. If the full 11 miles is too much, you can meet us at Bricket Wood Station (parking available) at around 11:30 for the final 4 miles or just meet us outside the Abbey for a picnic before the service (picnic may be moved inside the Abbey depending on the weather).
After our year long journey of learning and discussion on Children and Communion, the PCC met in February and agreed that children should be allowed to receive Communion. We have now heard back from the Bishop that he has given us permission to admit children to Communion before confirmation. This means that we can admit the first group of children this Pentecost.
Can you please let Pam know if your child is between 7 to 10 years old (or will be 7 before this summer) so that we can have a chat about them beginning the teaching sessions in preparations to receive Communion. Children older than 10 (who will be 11 this year) can be confirmed later this year.
Wednesday 10th February 2016 at 7:30pm
Lent is a very important time in the Christian calendar as we journey towards the Cross and Resurrection. It is also a time of penitence and our Lenten journey begins on 10th February at the Ash Wednesday Service of Holy Communion.
It is important that we observe Lent and the Ash Wednesday service is the best way to start. It is a beautiful service – please make every effort to be there.
Lent is a time of study, prayer and reflection. If you would like to join in some form of study and discussion during Lent then join us for one of our Lent Groups.
This year, the course will be based on the musical movie ‘Les Miserables’ and our courses will meet weekly between Ash Wednesday and Palm Sunday. We are joining together with all the other churches in South Oxhey and there are a variety of daytime and evening courses as you prefer. A sign up list with the available times will be in our foyer after our Sunday morning service.
Everyone is welcome. We all need to learn more about our faith and to grow together in Christ – please consider joining us for this Lent course.
In September, we began our investigations on whether to admit children to communion before confirmation and held a Breakfast Service on the topic of baptism in December. For the next two Sundays we will be holding services devoted to looking in depth at the subject of Holy Communion and children.
Sunday 10th January at 10am
Guest speakers from St. Matthew’s Church, Oxhey.
St. Matthew’s admitted children to communion several years ago and adults and children from the congregation will tell us of their experiences of the process and what it has meant to them. They will also answer any questions you may have on the subject. Please think carefully about any questions you may like to ask them.
Sunday 17th January at 9:30am
Breakfast service: Looking together at Holy Communion
There will be plenty of opportunity for everyone to discuss the subject of children and communion and to put forward their views. Hopefully there will be a PCC member on each table who will record those views which can be reported back at the next PCC meeting.
In February the PCC will be discussing and voting on whether we go ahead with admitting our children to Holy Communion. This is a very important decision for all of us. Please make both these services a priority. Whatever your thoughts and feelings you need to be heard!
Our next Breakfast Service will be on Sunday 20th December. Take it easy and let us supply your breakfast.
As part of our process of exploration prior to making a decision about whether we would like to admit children to receive Communion before confirmation, this Breakfast Service will be an opportunity to discuss together and think in some depth about Baptism and Confirmation. Please come along to this service because it is important that we are all involved in the final decision.
As usual we will all share breakfast together at 9:30am followed by Holy Communion with activities for all the family.
Sunday 20th December at 4pm
This Service will be held in in Oxhey Chapel (may be transferred to main church in the event of very cold weather).
Traditional Bible readings interspersed with your favourite carols. This service is followed with mince pies, tea and coffee in the main church. Wrap up warm as there is no heating!
